St. John Fair this weekend

This year’s St. John Community Fair, themed “Barns ‘Round Here,” is set for this weekend. Several events are planned for the weekend.

The festivities kick off today, Thursday, when the Cook Shack opens at the fairground at 11 a.m. Food, sewing, adult arts and crafts, photography and flower entries will be accepted from 8 a.m. to noon today, and livestock entries will be received from 12-5 p.m. From 1-5 p.m., judging will take place in the home ec building. The building will be closed to the public at this time. The building will however be opened for evening viewing after 5 p.m. tonight.

The Cook Shack will re-open Friday morning at 9 a.m. along with the community building, and fitting and showing also begins at 9 a.m., with FFA up first. Sheep will be shown at 9 a.m, goats at 9:45, swine at 10 and beef at 11. The conformation classes will then begin at 1 p.m., with FFA again up first. Beef will be shown at 1 p.m, sheep at 2, goats and meat class at 3 p.m. and swine at 3:30 p.m. A round robin will follow the last class.

Saturday will be a full day with a cowboy breakfast at the Cook Shack being served from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The annual Hog Jog registration is from 7 to 8 a.m., and will then begin at 8:30. The 4H and FFA horse show is slated for 9 a.m., and 4H, FFA and adult livestock judging will be at 9:30 a.m. Demonstrations are set for 10 a.m. at the fairground.

A break from the stock show will be the the community fair parade down Front Street at noon featuring several local entries.

The stock show will return at 1 p.m. with games at the show arena and fairground, as well as the awards presentations and raffle drawing.

Animals may be removed from the grounds starting at 5 p.m.

On both Friday and Saturday, the library will be open for games, with hours on Friday from 12-6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will also be open Sunday for games from 12-2 p.m.

Sunday, the festivities will continue.

The community building will open at 8 a.m., and a cowboy church service will be at 9 a.m. outdoors. It will move inside the community building in the event of inclement weather.

The annual pig putt registration will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the St. John Golf and Country Club, and the event will begin at 10 a.m. The pig putt is the final event.

Building exhibits may be removed from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
