Two suspects arrested after Palouse chase

Benjamin Garfield, 26, Quincy, and Richard A. Glenn, 39, were booked into the jail here late April 20 after an afternoon car chase through Palouse and out across fields northeast of Palouse. They finally surrendered after a foot chase of approximately 250 yards with Palouse Officer Joe Handley in pursuit.

According to the arrest report, Handley and Palouse Chief Jerry Neumann were called at 12:32 p.m. Thursday and advised two men had taken a car from the J.E. Love employees lot in Garfield and were headed southbound on Highway 26.

Handley intercepted the suspect car just north of Palouse and the chase continued into Palouse. The report notes Chief Neumann, who was behind Handley, had to take evasive action to avoid colliding with the suspects as they drove into Palouse.

The chase continued in Palouse north on Whitman Street and then on I Street and F Street.

Handley’s report said the car, which was driven by Garfield, then went into a field and crossed north to Stan Willcox Road. It then went down Willcox Road and into another field where it became stuck. The foot chase started at that point.

The report alleges the suspects admitted they took the car in Garfield after committing a burglary in Latah County at Idaho Rigging. ATV items reported missing from that business were allegedly found in the back of the car. Burglary tools were also allegedly found in the car.

They were scheduled to make a first appearance in court Monday morning.
