Tuesday Colfax sustained a 3-8 loss to Northwest Christian, one of the north side clubs expected to have a big part of the action when the two NE sides collide in the NE district playoff.

The 8-2 record is expected to put Colfax in a number-two slot for the NE playoff which is scheduled to start May 6 with Colfax as one of the host teams. The Bulldogs will play the winner of the game which will pair the third place team from the north against the last place team from the south.

In the Saturday opener at Colfax, Abbie Miller of Colfax and Bailey Merriott of Reardan waged a pitching duel over the first four innings for a 0-0 tie.

Colfax finally broke out to score all three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Miller tagged a triple to score two runs, and Lindsey Lindgren hit a sacrifice fly to score Miller for the third run.

Reardan was unable to get a score in the sixth and seventh innings.

Miller allowed just two hits in the first game, walked just two batters and struck out 11.

Merriott allowed the Bulldogs four hits, walked just two Bulldogs and fanned eight.

Coach Michelle Morgan said a big part of the shutout was throws by Bulldog catchers Cheyanne Stokes and Chelsea Becker which discouraged base stealing by the Reardan runners.

The second game saw an explosion of 12 Colfax runs over the first three innings capped by seven scores in the third.

Colfax cooked 13 hits in the four-inning game with Becker hitting an inside-the-park homer and a single and Greta Geier tagging a double and two singles.

Miller again held Reardan to two hits in the second game, struck out seven and walked just two batters.

Reardan ended the game on a forfeit after the fourth inning with two of its players knocked out of the game by head injuries and one player sustaining an ankle injury. A Colfax ambulance crew transported two of the Reardan players to the hospital for a checkup.

The hosts booked eight hits off Miller, who managed to strike out four batters for the day.
