A total of 78 long-range shooting competitors gathered north of St. John Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23, for the third year of the Precision Steel Challenge national points-race event at Rock Lake Rifle Range.
The shooters moved in small groups, stopping to shoot at targets from 300 to 1,250 yards out. They aimed their rifles on wooden stands. Extending over one mile, the course has 17 stages, at which competitors take from 9-12 shots each.
Precision Rifle Series includes 40 events per year across the country with a rotating finale every year.
Competition at Rock Lake began Saturday at 8:30 a.m. for 10 stages of shooting. The final seven took place Sunday.
Rock Lake Rifle Range is on land owned by the Glorfield family, 14 miles out of St. John.
