LaCrosse schedules session for water system grant discussion

The Town of LaCrosse will host a public meeting next week to discuss potential improvements to the town's water system.

Steven Marsh, an engineer with TD&H Engineering of Spokane, said the purpose of the public meeting is to help the town explore options for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

“All we're doing is looking for grant funding to take a look at doing two things,” he said. “We're looking at increasing the pressure of the water system on Hill and Star avenues, and simultaneously we're looking at a way to increase the amount of water that can be stored in the town.”

Comments on the proposed activities will be received at the meeting. An outline of the proposed water system improvement project is available at the town hall, and comments can either be made at the meeting or submitted in writing until the close of business on Wednesday, May 10.

Marsh noted the grant would be strictly for planning.

“We're not even going to turn a spade of dirt,” he commented.

Up to $24,000 could be available to the town to conduct research for a potential project down the road. Marsh said any project would be a while out.

“We'd be creating a game plan to see what can be done,” he said. “It'd be about six months before we know about the grant and then another year to get the planning done before anything else could be done.”

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, in the council chambers at town hall. The town hall is located at 107 S. Main Street.

Written comments can be submitted to the following address: 107 S. Main Street, PO Box 228, LaCrosse, WA 99143.
