Alta Fern Kriebel Carlson, 95, former Garfield resident, of Clarkston, died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Hospice House North in Spokane. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. June 2 at the Garfield Cemetery with Mark Klohe officiating.
Born June 14, 1921, in Garfield to George Mortimer and Estella May Corbett Kriebel, she grew up in Garfield and attended the local schools. After completing her junior year of high school, Alta married Carl Victor Carlson on Oct. 8, 1938, in Garfield. The couple made their home in Garfield until 1947 when they moved to Ione, where she served as the town clerk of Ione for many years and was an agent for Farmers Insurance. She was a very active member of the Congregational Church in Ione where she played the piano and organ and sang in the choir.
They moved to Clarkston in the early 1990s. Mr. Carlson died in 1998, and Alta continued to live in Clarkston until 2015 when she moved to Spokane.
She served as president of the Washington State Rebekahs I.O.O.F. and was an international musician for the Rebekahs. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was also an avid gardener.
Surviving are her daughter, Charri (Joe) Doeleman of Spokane; sister, Verna Parsons of Tucson, Arizona; daughters-in-law Matbia Carlson and Sharon Carlson, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, sons George Wilfred Carlson, Jerry Victor Carlson and Stanley Boyd Carlson.
