Defending champion Colton will enter the state 1B softball tournament as a No. 2 seed after losing to Almira/Coulee/Hartline in a District 7/9 seeding game Monday night.
The Wildcats lost 5-1 on a day their hitting failed to come through.
“You can make a lot of excuses,” said coach Brad Nilson.
“We just didn't hit, plain and simple.
They didn't throw anything we couldn't hit.” The game was played at Medical Lake – moved from last Saturday due to weather.
Colton will open this year's state tournament in Yakima Friday with a first round game against Wishkah Valley.
Gametime is 1 p.m.
on field three of the Gateway Sports Complex at Kiwanis Park.
Other teams in the state 1B bracket include Pomeroy, Oakville, Rainier Christian, Sunnyside Christian Quilcene and Almira/Coulee/ Hartline.
The state tourmament will run Friday and Saturday.
The Colton bus leaves Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.
On it will be three seniors in their last trip for the Wildcats; Kendyl Druffel, Emma Schultheis and Daylinn Smith.
All three have played on the Colton High softball team since they were eighth-graders.
