Colton's defense of the state 1B baseball championship ended Saturday in a 3-2 loss in the quarterfinals to Odessa/Harrington.
Playing at Walla Walla's Borleske Field, the Wildcats could not get key hits when they needed them late in the game.
In the sixth inning, Colton's Cameron Bean hit a single and advanced to third base on a sacrifice fly.
Bean was the would-be tying run.
Odessa/Harrington pitcher Chance Messer held Colton (15-6) to only four hits in the game.
Bean pitched in the game for Colton, working for eight outs off of ground balls.
The Wildcats got hits from Brady Chadwick, Bean, Nick Schultheis and Peter Schultheis, who hit a double.
Odessa/Harrington met Pomeroy later that afternoon in the state 1B semifinals, losing 5-1.
The Pirates will now play Almira/Coulee/ Hartline for the state 1B championship at Wheeler Field in Centralia Saturday at 4 p.m.
Pomeroy lost in the 1B title game two years ago.
ACH made the 2017 final with state wins over Evergreen Lutheran and Naselle.
