Colfax takes 9th at state, wins 4x100

Colfax girls scored 30 points in the 1B track finals at Roos Field Saturday with Northwest Christian of Lacey taking the meet with 90 points. St. George's, the top team from the NE, placed a distant second with 65 points.

Colfax took the 4x100 relay for the lone win for the day.

Kaitlyn Cornish, Parker Warwick, Josie Riebold and Alexie Smith took the 4x100, Smith running the last leg for the .47 win over the La Conner team.

Warwick also placed second in the 300 hurdles, and Cornish placed sixth in the long jump at 15.4.

Piper Cai moved to a personal best in the pole vault at 9-6 and placed fourth at the state event behind the 11-9 vault by Tawni Blankenship of North Beach.

Cai also placed fourth in the high jump at 5-0.

Parker Warwick finished second in the 300 hurdles, .55 behind winner Heidi Sowers of NWC Lacey who also took the 110 hurdles.

Colfax sustained a setback with a disqualification in the 4x200 relay, another one of its power events through the season.

Alexie Smith placed 11th in the triple jump.

Best finish on the boys side for Colfax was a number-two finish by Caleb Brown in the high jump. Brown and Casey Hamilton of Kettle Falls battled all the way to 6-5. Neither could make the next mark, and the win went to Hamilton because Brown had a miss on his first attempt at the 6-2 mark.

Garrett Naught of Tekoa/Rosalia placed seventh at 6-2.

Ben Ahmann, a winner in both hurdle events at the regional, placed third in the 300 final at state after just making the cut for the finals in the prelims two days earlier.

Ahmann, Brown, Matthew Neu and Riley Griffith placed seventh in the 4x400 relay.
