Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Port of Whitman County approved a $400 expenditure two weeks ago to support the annual Colfax Fly-In and Pancake breakfast at the Colfax Airport.
“Somebody's got to pay for the pancake batter,” commented Joe Poiré, Port executive director.
The Port's $400 will go toward napkins, water and porta potties for the event. The fly-in is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Chapter of Lewiston. This year marks the fourth year of the fly-in which is organized locally by Barney Buckley, a member of the Experimental Aircraft Chapter.
The pancake breakfast will be served by the Colfax Rotary, which holds the breakfast as a fundraiser. Cost of the breakfast, which will include pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs, will be $8.
The fly-in is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, with the breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m.
The aprons at the airport will be closed from 9 to 10 a.m. for judging. Port Properties and Development Manager Debbie Snell said she thinks there will be a great turnout.
“It was huge last year,” she said.
Awards will be presented in several categories for the planes, including people's choice and best entries in experimental, antique, classic and contemporary. The oldest and youngest pilots will also be recognized, as will the pilot who travels the longest distance to make the show.
Snell said there will also be several displays at the event.
