Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Port of Whitman County received the Washington Public Ports Association Creative Partnership Award for 2017 on May 19. The Port received the award after sending in an application to the association.
“We applied for that award in regards to our work with seven other ports in the state on legislative issues for the construction of broadband infrastructure,” said Joe Poiré, Port executive director.
Poiré said the association annually gives out three awards, including for creative partnering, economic development and innovation.
“Every year at the spring meeting they review the last year's accomplishments from spring-to-spring,” said Poiré.
Poiré received the award along with commissioners Tom Kammerzell and John Love.
“Five minutes before, we found out we had to give a speech,” Kammerzell commented at the regular Port meeting two weeks ago.
“We did alright,” added Love.
Poiré said the Port was pleased to receive the award.
“It's always nice to be recognized by your peers,” he said.
