The National Council for Home Safety and Security two weeks ago released its list of the safest cities in Washington, and Pullman made it in the top five.
The rankings were based off of recent FBI Uniform Crime Report data. Cities or towns with populations of less than 5,000 were not included.
Ranking first was Duvall with a population of 7,882, two violent crimes and 49 property crimes last year. Second was Sammamish at a population of 52,365 with 12 violent crimes and 392 property crimes last year. Connell came in a third with its population of 5,746 and seven violent crimes and 36 property crimes last year. DuPont was next with a population of 9,597. The city had nine violent crimes and 76 property crimes last year. Pullman came in at fifth. Pullman is the second largest community in the top five with a population of 33,174. There were 33 violent crimes and 276 property crimes listed in Pullman last year.
Rounding out the top 10 were Lynden, Selah, West Richland, Oak Harbor and Snoqualmie. Overall, 40 communities were recognized as the safest in the state.
