Wes Hanson will

instruct painting

This two-day workshop on sketching and painting local landscapes in watercolor is scheduled at Dahmen Barn June 24 and 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Instructor Wes Hanson, a member of the American Watercolor Society, has painted using watercolors and other mediums for 40 years and has taught at the Artisan Barn numerous times. He also teaches drawing and painting classes for Spokane Art Supply and North Idaho College. He has taught workshops for the Coeur dʼAlene Art Association and Palouse Watercolor Socius and put on many one-person shows. Wes emphasizes fundamentals. Students who have mastered basic skills can then paint traditionally or experimentally.

Saturday morning the class will go over basic watercolor techniques and create a series of simplified landscapes using pencil, ink and watercolor. In the afternoon, if the weather is good, students will sketch and paint outdoors. On Sunday, the class will apply all learned techniques outdoors, weather permitting. This class is for adults with beginning to intermediate level of experience. Students can find a detailed supplies list on the Barn website.

Class fee will be $144 and registration deadline is June 12.

CLUBS & YOUTH GROUPS

Rosalia

Garden Club

Rosalia Garden Club recently received Ames Tools to help in its civic gardening project at the Rosalia Mini-Park. Only two clubs in the state of Washington met the criteria to receive Ames Tools through National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Shovels, troughs, cultivars and wheel barrels were included. This award of free tools to the club was a huge help to club members who no longer need to bring their own tools to work on the mini-park at Rosalia.

The club June 14 plans to tour Plants of the Wild near Tekoa. The tour will be conducted by Manager Kathy Hutton. Members should plan to leave the mini-park at 10 a.m. to share rides or be at Plants of the Wild by 10:30 a.m.

Malden

OES chapter

Malden Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star will meet Monday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Malden Masonic Lodge. Martha Chapter 60 from Cheney will merge with the Malden chapter. A potluck salad dinner will be served at 6:30, according to Worthy Matron Jean Flanigen.
