Posse starts with 5-0 run in Legion AA

Pullman Posse AA Legion bagged a 2-1 decision over West Valley at McDonald Park in Colfax Tuesday night to advance its record to 5-0 in early league play. Posse now stands at 8-1 on the new season and 5-0 in league play.

Coach Mike Kinkade and crew launched this year after rolling up a 3-1 mark in the Spokane district finals last year to qualify for the 16 team AA Legion finals. They played in the four-team segment at Mount Vernon and lost to the hosts and Walla Walla before winning 12-9 against Montesano in a final game which stretched over 12 innings.

Posse this year includes Pullman players along with three recruits from Colfax and two from Pomeroy. Nate Akesson, Kyle Appel and Parker Huber are the Colfax players. Hogan Heytvelt and Ryan Wolf make the trip up from Pomeroy to play on the squad.

Tuesday's game at Colfax was a duel between West Valley pitcher George Fisher and Jeffrey Marlow of Pullman. Each pitcher allowed three hits in the battle.

West Valley scored in the first inning and held the lead until Posse scored twice in the fourth inning off a two-run triple by Payton Kallaher.

Marlow struck out two WV batters and walked just one. He took the win despite three errors booked by the Posse defense.

Fisher was relieved by Jimmy Laswell in the sixth.

Other Posse hits at Colfax Tuesday were singles by Akesson and Zane Wilson.

Monday night at Jackson Field in Spokane, Posse defeated Shadle Park twice, 8-3 and 13-2. Posse rolled up 11 hits in each game of the double bill. The 13-2 closer went down in the books as a league win.

Heytvelt and Akesson pitched the win in the first game and allowed the hosts five hits. Kallaher homered in the first game and Akesson, Marlow and Grady Benton each had two hits.

Kallaher and Conner Parrish allowed Shadle just three hits in the second game. Appel, catcher in the second game, tagged a double, and Zane Wilson had four hits with a triple.

The second game with Shadle was tallied as a league win.

The team started the season with a pair of non-league wins over Moscow, 19-7 and 6-5. They booked their first league win with a 6-1 edge over Mt. Spokane.

They defeated Asotin 10-3 with Jake Wells and Akesson allowing the valley team nine hits. Asotin starter Devin Fry allowed Posse eight walks in that game. Jake Wells led the seven-hit Posse offense with three singles, and Akesson tagged a triple.

North Central, the lone team to down Posse to date, scored eight runs in the first inning. That was the end of their scoring but it held up for an 8-4 win.

Posse was held to three hits by the three NC hurlers. Marlow doubled and Appel and Akesson tagged singles.

Posse bounced back in the next game to hammer Mead 18-3 with 14 hits. Wilson and Konner Kinkade each bagged a single, double and triple to lead the barrage against the Mead team which sent three pitchers to the mound. Grady Benton singled and double for the locals.

Jake Wells and Conner Parrish each threw three innings and allowed six hits to Mead.
