Serving Whitman County since 1877
Palouse Watershed Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) plans a tour Monday, July 10, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
In the first two years of the RCPP program, landowners and operators have received cost-share funding to implement 22,314 acres of conservation tillage, 150 acres of filter strips, field borders or riparian buffers; 12,460 acres of precision nutrient management, and 42 acres of conservation easements.
The tour will include examples of funded projects, including a Farmed Smart certified farm using conservation tillage and riparian buffers, fencing and off-site watering for livestock producers, habitat restoration, native protected Palouse Prairie and live-stream data from monitoring efforts that have tracked impacts to soil and water health from implementation of conservation practices like these.
Tour participants can meet at Pullman at 8 a.m. to depart from Palouse Conservation District office, 1615 NE Eastgate Blvd., Section H, Pullman. Vehicles will be provided.
They can also meet at 9 a.m. at St. John City Park. The tour will end at St. John City Park at 3:10 p.m. and at the Palouse CD Office at 3:30 p.m.
Reservations for the tour can be made at the Palouse CD office by Friday, June 30.
