Janice Knopes Ullman, 72, former Colfax resident, died July 2, 2017, at her home in Auburn due to complications of her prolonged battle with multiple sclerosis. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Gethsemane Cemetery in Federal Way.
Born March 22, 1945, in Craigmont, Idaho to Joseph and Caroline Heitstuman Knopes, she attended the Idaho School for the Deaf in Gooding, Idaho State University in Pocatello and Kinman Business College in Spokane.
The family lived in the Orofino, Idaho, area for many years and later moved to Colfax. She worked in Colfax, moved to Spokane and eventually settled in Western Washington and married Bob Ullman September 20, 1980, in Seattle.
Surviving are her husband Bob, Auburn; daughter Martha (Mark) McDonald, Kent; brothers Harold of Colfax, Lawrence (Drusilla) of Clarkston, Nicholas (Nick) of Perry, Ga., and James (Pok) of Bellevue; sisters Arlene Rowden and Carol Vogel, both of Spokane; Dolores (Robert) Wood of Roy, Susan Knopes, Olympia; and one grandson.
A memorial service for
Shirley W. Pratt, 87, will be July 22 at 2 p.m. in the Colfax United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. at Rockford Cemetery. Mrs. Pratt died June 28, 2017, in Colfax.
Born May 25, 1930, to Otis and Mildred Lupro Wright in Eugene, Ore., she graduated from Wahkiakum High School in Cathlamet and from Washington State College.
She and Milton Pratt were married in 1952 and lived two years in England while he served in the United States Air Force. After the service, they came home to his family's farm at Rockford.
While raising four children, she went back to school at Eastern Washington State College and earned her teaching degree which she followed with a master’s degree. Her first teaching job was at Fairfield Grade School. After moving to Tekoa in 1969, she taught at Tekoa Grade School. After retiring from full time teaching, she taught part-time at Oakesdale. She especially enjoyed teaching kids to read during her 42 years of teaching.
She was active in Chapter AT of PEO, Tekoa Book Club and later in the Birthday Club at Rockford. She moved to Hill Ray Plaza in Colfax after Mr. Pratt's death in 2013.
Surviving are two children Richard (Diane) Pratt of Richland and Diane (Dennis) Solbrack of Colfax; one brother, Don Wright; 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, David and Douglas.
Memorials may be made to the Rockford Cemetery, Hospice, or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Schanzenbach Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mark S. Hawley, 66, died July 17, 2017, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane following a July 5 heart attack.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at the Viola Cemetery and a reception will follow back at the church. Friends may call and pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse.
