Serving Whitman County since 1877
The last set of signs for the Palouse Scenic Byway is now in the hands of the state Department of Transportation to be put up. This is the final step of a grant and process that has stretched over the past 10 years.
“That's the last of the byway stuff,” said Janel Goebel, Whitman County Parks and Recreation interim director and program coordinator.
Two types of signs will be added to the Palouse Scenic Byway network.
Three sets will direct travelers to way-finding information signs at Steptoe, the Dusty restrooms and LaCrosse park. The set for the LaCrosse park will have a “two-mile” addition since the location is off the main highway.
There are also signs stating places along the byway.
Signs had been made for three locations, but DOT nixed the signs for Round Barn Hill and Ice Age Floods. Goebel did not know the reason for the ruling.
Cashup Flats will also be identified with a sign.
