Deputies respond to murder-suicide

Whitman County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning responded to a report of a shooting in Hay after a woman called 911 and said she shot her husband because of his health complications. The call came in shortly after 7 a.m., and when deputies arrived on the scene, a man and woman were found to be deceased.

Dennis L. Moore, 66, is reported to have died from a single gunshot wound to the head from a small caliber gun, while Janice K. Moore, 63, is reported to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head from a small caliber firearm, according to the report from Sheriff Brett Myers.

Sheriff Myers responded to the scene, and a Colfax ambulance responded but later returned to the station. County Coroner Peter Martin was called to the scene to investigate the deaths.

Myers reported he and the coroner will continue the investigation to better determine the exact cause and manner of death and the events that led up to the shootings.
