A memorial service for Robert Young Tuttle, 98, Potlatch, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at the Palouse Federated Church with Pastor Corey Laughary officiating. Mr. Tuttle died at his home Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017.

Born April 29, 1919, to Carl and Mary Agnes Young Tuttle, in Chico, Calif., he grew up in California and graduated from Fort Jones High School. He studied agriculture at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

He met Doris Ann Towle at a square dance, and they were married in Oakland, Calif., Aug. 22, 1948. They owned a ranch near the Scott Valley town of Etna, Calif., and began raising their family there. Bob designed and built a raised milking parlor, sprinkler irrigation systems and a sawmill that produced boards for the family’s home.

In 1966, the couple moved to the Palouse, and in 1980, Bob and Doris moved to the North River Road, where he built a geodesic dome house with a unique spiral staircase created from the oak flooring of the old Palouse High School gym. He retired from farming in 1987.

In retirement, they enjoyed traveling with their fifth wheel camper. They were active for many years with Servants on Wheels Ever Ready which helped churches and church camps across the country. Bob played wash-tub and stand-up bass with the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers. He continued to enjoy baseball throughout his life and was an avid Mariners fan.

Surviving are his wife, Doris, at the family home outside of Palouse; children Nancy (Mark) Hegg of Palouse; Bert (Loretta) Tuttle of Dennison, Texas, and Beth (Mike) Osborne of Potlatch; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
