Serving Whitman County since 1877

Kiss the Pig election donations lag at $72

With just more than a week to go before the big kiss at the Palouse Empire Fair, the collection jars for the Colfax and Community Fund (CACF) 'Kiss the Pig' fundraiser have brought in $72.

“I'm hoping we'll get going more once we get closer,” said Jeannette Solimine, board member with the CACF.

Candidates in the second rendition of the event include Scott Ackerman of Ackerman Heating and Air, dentist Al Kirkpatrick and CPA Terry Eng with Kirkpatrick, Utgaard & Perry.

As of the last jar collection count Ackerman was in the lead with $42, Kirkpatrick was second with $16 and Eng was third with $14. Collection jars are located at the Whitman County Library, Tick Klock Drug and Colfax City Hall.

In addition to the jars, there is an online option for donating. To do this, go to PayPal.com and type in [email protected]

Solimine said the Colfax Rotary also had a collection jar go around at its last meeting, and she has yet to collect that money, so she is not sure how much more money each candidate has. Ackerman, Kirkpatrick and Eng are all Rotary members.

It was also reported earlier that the CACF is at 85 percent of its annual $25,000 goal, with just one month to go.

“We're doing better than we've done in the last few years,” said Solimine.

The drive will start over again in October. It benefits eight organizations, including Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse, Boost Collaborative, Boy Scouts of America, Colfax Youth League, Community Action Center, Council on Aging and Human Services, Families Together For People with Disabilities and Palouse River Counseling.

“We want to thank everyone for your support,” said Solimine. “And let's get one of them kissing that cute little piggy!”
