A memorial service for Donald E. Cochrane, 67, Princeton, Idaho, will be Friday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at Grace Community Church in Potlatch with the Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer officiating. Potlatch VFW Post and the United States Navy will provide military honors. A luncheon will follow the service.
Mr. Cochrane died Aug. 17, 2017, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where he was being treated after an ATV accident near his Princeton home Aug. 11.
Born Dec. 29, 1949, at Moscow, Idaho, to Foy and Joan (Marsh) Cochrane, he attended Potlatch schools and graduated from Potlatch High School in 1968. He enlisted in the United States Navy in April of 1969 and served in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in January of 1973.
Returning to the Potlatch area, he worked at the Bennett Lumber Company in Princeton and then owned and operated his own logging company for more than 30 years. For the the last five years, he worked for Potlatch Forests, Inc., at the St. Maries sawmill as a dryer tender. He retired in October of 2016.
He and Diana Boller were married in Potlatch Aug. 27, 1976. They had two sons. They were later divorced. Don married Kim Pederson on March 2, 1996.
Mr. Cochrane was a member of the Potlatch Veterans of Foreign Wars. His hobbies included raising cows and watching his kids and grandkids in local sports.
Survivors include his wife Kim at the family home; sons, Andy (Jill) Cochrane of Princeton, and Kurt (Jackie) Cochrane of Potlatch; Shelle (Kyle) Peterson of Harvard; Jennifer (Kelsey) Southwick of Potlatch; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Joan Cochrane, Potlatch, and three sisters, Nancy Biggerstaff of Spokane, Valerie (Jack) Douglas of Mullan, Idaho, and Verlynn (Myron) Emerson of Potlatch.

A community potluck to celebrate the life of Glenn R. Duffin, 86, retired truck driver, was Wednesday afternoon in the LaCrosse Park. Mr. Duffin died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at Whitman Health and Rehab in Colfax.
Born Feb. 28, 1931, in Portland, to Ervin and Brumhilda Petersen Duffin, he was one of nine children. He was raised in western Montana and worked as a long haul truck driver for many years. He later worked at the Durand Cox ranch and was a driver for H & H Trucking at Dusty.
He and Nancy Kay Price Oles were married April 19, 2002, and made their home in LaCrosse. He retired in 2005, and they have spent winters in Arizona.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Judy DeAmeic, New Hampshire, and three step-children, Charlie Oles and Iva Roberts, both of LaCrosse, and Penny Mendez, Portland, and three brothers and a sister, Ted, Provo, Utah; Roger, Henderson, Nev .; Linden, Chester, Mont., and Eleanor Wolfe, Yakima.
A memorial service for Velma Krasselt, 91, will be Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer officiating. A private family committal service will be at Freeze Cemetery.
Mrs. Krasselt died Aug. 6, 2017, at Aspen Park Care Center in Moscow.
Born June 21, 1926, in Latah County to Arthur and Alice (McClure) Strong, she attended Mountain Home School and then worked for room and board for families in Potlatch to be able to go to high school. She graduated in 1944 and married Guy Everett Krasselt Oct. 8, 1944, at the Elmore Church north of Potlatch.
Following Everett’s service in the Army, they made their home on the Krasselt home place where they farmed and ranched. They moved to Potlatch from the farm in 1974 and returned to the home place in 2010. Mr. Krasselt died in 2012.
Velma worked as a bus driver for Potlatch school and then as bookkeeper and sales clerk at Plummer and Wagner Building Supply until her retirement in 1994. She was a lifelong member of the Elmore United Methodist Church and loved writing poetry and letters, sewing, gardening, canning and cooking.
Survivors include her children and their spouses; Wayne and Mildred Krasselt of Potlatch; Melvin and Marta Krasselt of Potlatch; Clint and Nancy Krasselt of Potlatch; Beverly Hoidal of Colville, Wash .; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dean Strong of Gas City, Ind .; Carol Carter of Moscow; Lyle Strong of Post Falls, Idaho, and George Strong of Potlatch.
