Appel gets 80th b-day fête

The Appel family celebrated Dick Appel’s 80th birthday with a family picnic at the home of Dick and Helen Appel.

Attending were Bruce and Elaine Appel, Spokane Valley, and sons Charlie and Spenser; Phil Appel, Cheney; Eric and Shannon Appel, Dusty, and Connor, Sarah, Kyle and Sidney; Caroline and Rob Kunkel, Pullman, Elly and Luciene; Neil and Liz Appel, Dusty, Josh, Noemi, Issac, John Paul, Grace and Michael; Lisa and Travis Frei, Colfax, Miriam, Rachel, Emma and Colette; Kate Wollstein, Moscow; Sheryl and Randy Smith, Steptoe; Jim and Catie Appel, Yakima; Mark and Jamie Appel, and Regan, Steptoe; Dave and Alice Appel, Colfax; Charley Appel, Colfax; Tony and Joyce Appel, Davenport; Ron and Donna Connell, Spokane Valley; Milea Hazen, Renton; Steve and Dianne Appel, Dusty; Peter and Laura Appel, Dusty, Jeremiah and Isaiah, and Renata and Dave Anderson, Walla Walla.

The Bruce Appel family spent the weekend with his parents to help with set-up and clean-up.

The party was hosted and planned by Dick’s children.

Vicki Broeckel, Sharry O’Hearne and Kristin Repp were among those who attended the “Inspired Palouse” exhibit at the Whitman County Library in Colfax this week. Awards were given at the Saturday evening reception and Carla Danielson of Hooper was awarded the “People’s Choice” designation for her photo of a blue heron in flight near Hooper.

Linda Hennigar was one of approximately 30 guests who attended a birthday party Sunday for two-year-old Tayzlee Boller, daughter of Nick Boller and Jordyn Pollack of Potlatch. Tayzlee is Hennigar’s great-great-niece and great-granddaughter of Jack and the late Marilyn Hennigar, former Whitman Country residents.

Sunday evening, Tom and Doreen Riedner hosted a Germans from Russia dinner in their home for Dale and Vicki Broeckel, Loren Scaggs and Karen Broeckel. The guests thoroughly enjoyed a meal of krautalushala and knepfla.
