Helen Collinsworth

Helen Louise (Brinkman) Collinsworth, 90, died Sept. 17, 2017, at the Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax. Services will be at a later date at the Veterans Military Cemetery in Medical Lake.

Born at Lewiston, Idaho, April 27, 1927, to Fred and Mary Brinkman, she was raised in Clarkston and attended Clarkston schools.

She married Floyd Collinsworth and moved to Spokane where she attended Kinman Business School and worked a short time. They had four children. She later lived in Ritzville and then Colfax. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Helen was preceded in death by her husband.

Surviving are her children Richard (Patty) of Colfax, Raymond (Lola) of Clarkston, Mary Louise (Steve) of Culdesac, Idaho, and Roger (Brenda) of Spokane; sister Anna Marie Kraining of Yakima, and numerous grand, great-grand and great-great-grand children.

Neptune Society Spokane is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to American Cancer or Colfax Volunteer Firemen.

Carroll Ann Gabel

A memorial service for Carroll Ann Gabel, 63, Colfax, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse. She died at her home in Colfax Sept. 14, 2017.

Born March 12, 1954, in Boise, Idaho, to Marcus and Marjorie Davis Box, she grew up around the northwest, including Craigmont and Spokane, where she attended Ferris High School before leaving early to obtain a GED. She and Richard Gabel were married May 9, 1981, in Spokane. She worked as a cab driver for a couple years as well as part of the staff of Expo ’74, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. Carroll’s favorite hobby was making crochet projects including blankets.

Surviving are her husband Richard Gabel of Colfax; sons Paul (Augustine) Gabel of Kamiah, Idaho, and Dallas Gabel of Spokane; daughters Brenda (Don) Clay of Shawnee, Okla., and Stacie (Jim) Gibson of Spokane Valley; brother William Box of Boise; sisters Marian Basil of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Marcia Redman of Kuna, Idaho, and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, 4380 S Syracuse St #430, Denver, CO 80237, or to the Whitman County Humane Society Box 453, Pullman, Wash., 99163.

Melvin Mundell Sr.,

The funeral for Melvin Lee Mundell Sr., 80, a resident of Elberton, was Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse. Mr. Mundell died Sept. 19 in a one-car accident just south of Tekoa on the Farmington Road.

Born June 6, 1937, in Cannon City, Colo., to Leo and Verna Swartz Mundell, he moved with his family to Troy, Idaho, and attended school there through his junior year. He graduated from Moscow High School in 1955, and worked at his dad’s sawmill, the University of Idaho, J.E. Love and then for Washington State University where he retired in 2000 after 24 years. He and Charlotte Vancel were married Feb. 16, 1963, and resided at Palouse for 23 years before moving to Elberton in 1986. He enjoyed carpentry, leather work, screen printing and repairing stringed instruments. He played the mandolin, banjo and guitar. He was a trustee and elder at Garfield Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Veronica Mundell, Atascadero, Calif .; a son, Melvin Mundell, Jr., Moscow, and three grandchildren. Memorial gifts are suggested donations to public projects at Garfield or Palouse.

Wood rite Saturday

A memorial service for Evan C. Woods, D.D.S., 82, will be Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Dr. Woods died Dec. 14, 2016, at Auburn. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is handling the local arrangements.
