St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse freshman Caden Noha finds running room in the Eagles' 30-22 loss to Columbia.

A rare Tuesday night Southeast 1B football game in Colton counted as non-league. Nonetheless it counted up to 74-6 for the Wildcats over St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse.

Colton (3-1) got three interception returns for touchdowns, from Cameron Bean, Matt Wolf and Cole Hennigar, as they forced seven turnovers.

At quarterback, Parker Druffel threw 10-for-18 for 280 yards and five touchdowns. Luke Vining caught four passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns.

“They passed around us,” said Eagles coach Ken Gering. “The plays were executed flawlessly.”

The game was added to the schedules after Pomeroy announced it would not field a varsity team and the St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse game at Curlew was canceled due to smoke.

Colton vs. S.J.E.L. (0-4) as a league game will be Oct. 6 at St. John.

Colton traveled to Rosalia Friday, Sept. 22, and collared the Timberwolves, 66-36.

Druffel threw for 200 plus yards and ran for 200 plus in the non-league win.

Colton opened the scoring, leading 6-0 at the end of the first quarter before piling five touchdowns in the second.

Druffel went 16-for-32 for 208 yards in the air and four touchdowns. He rushed 14 times for 212 yards.

For receiving, Vining caught six passes for 89 yards and two scores. Cameron Bean rushed five times for 90 yards.

Columbia 30, St. John/Endicott 22

Down 24-8 going into the fourth quarter against the Columbia Hunters at home in St. John Sept. 22, St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse came back to within a touchdown of overtime.

They lost 30-22.

“The guys just rallied,” said Gering of the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Jonathan Logan ran up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown to start it, putting the score at 24-14.

Columbia then scored on a 45-yard breakaway run to the outside with three minutes remaining before the Eagles answered with a 60-yard touchdown run by freshman Caden Noha.

“That last three minutes was phenomenal,” Gering said. “An all-out battle. We wanted to score and they didn't want to let us.”

Trey Fleming and Levi Bailey switched off at quarterback for S.J.E.L., with Bailey throwing the first touchdown to Dustin Fox, a 52-yard score in the first quarter.

On defense for the Eagles, Noha at outside linebacker, nose tackle Grant Harrison and defensive backs Bailey and Fox led the effort.

After bye, Vikings home against Deary

A change in schedules due to smoke earlier in September led to a bye for Garfield/Palouse football last week and a test against Deary, Idaho, at home Friday.

The Vikings (2-0) were first scheduled to play at Craigmont, Idaho, Sept. 22 but the game had to be cut so Lewis County could fit in a league game they missed during the smoke week.

Gar/Pal will now match up with Deary, a team a lot like them, running the ball out of the I-formation.

“They're an excellent team,” said Vikings coach Will Woltering.

Gar/Pal will open league play on Oct. 13 for homecoming against St. John/Endicott/Lacrosse.

Cheerleaders for the Timberwolves keep the fans cranked during the half. The squad includes Hannah Ballou, Logan Dempsey, C'aria Murray, Jessica Nocker, Kennedy Pittsley and Sydney VanDyke.
