Farmington Road paving work started

Whitman County road crews began paving on Farmington Road Monday morning on a five-mile project north of town toward Tekoa. The work, done by Central Washington Asphalt of Moses Lake, began after a delay to wait for the temperature to reach 45 degrees.

The warmer temperature is needed to prevent cracking when the asphalt is laid down.

Whitman County Assistant Engineer Dean Cornelison told county commissioners that the contractor hopes to lay 2,000 tons per day and finish the 10,000-ton project Friday or Monday, Oct. 9.
