A taco feed benefit was held at the Garfield American Legion Hall Sept. 23 for the Garfield & Palouse Sharing Tree, at the behest of a man diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in January.
Eric Tredo, a 1990 graduate of Garfield/Palouse High School, requested the benefit be put on for a program he and his sister, Shelley Anderson of Garfield, benefited from as children.
The school program provides gifts for needy families during the Christmas season.
The Garfield dinner raised $646 for the program.
Tredo went into the Navy for four years after high school, serving on the U.S.S. Saratoga during Desert Storm in 1990-91. He later settled in Jacksonville, Fla., driving long-haul trucks. In 2007, he and wife Tamara Dawson returned to live in Palouse, where he continued to drive trucks. For a time, Tredo also worked for Palouse Grain Growers. He drove most recently for Huber Action Freight in Colfax.
Volunteers who helped put on the event include Michele Plumley-Bell, Chris Cochran and Penny Martinez, with assistance from Brian Kriebel and Connie Schautt.
The band Palouse Project played for three hours.
“And they even helped us clean up,” said Martinez, American Legion member.
State Bank Northwest of Garfield donated $400 for food while Palouse Market and Garfield Meat Shop donated beef.
