The City of Palouse will seek an additional bid on replacing the well telemetry system which monitors water level to keep it constant in the town’s reservoir.
The electronic system was installed in 2001-02 with the town’s well No. 3 in an upgrade.
Public Works Superintendent Dwayne Griffin asked A.E.S. of Rathdrum, Idaho, – the company which installed the original system and maintains it – to give a bid of what it would cost to replace it.
Griffin reported the $14,200 total to the council Sept. 26 and the council ultimately tabled the discussion to gather more bids.
The telemetry system coordinates between the two Palouse wells; well no. 2 is no longer in use.
Originally, the system would place an electronic call to former Public Works Director Byron Hodges’ home when there was a problem.
“Legend has it, his wife Gloria didn’t like the reservoir calling in the middle of the night,” said Palouse Mayor Michael Echanove.
