Coach Doering shoots for 900th volleyball win

Colfax Coach Sue Doering will shoot for her 900th win in high school volleyball over the next two matches. The Bulldogs will host Asotin in Colfax tonight for the homecoming match and a win would advance Doering to win 899.

The Bulldogs will face Tekoa/Rosalia in the Tuesday round at Tekoa and that could be the 900th.

Coach Doering this year is marking her final season at the helm of the team after retiring from teaching at the end of last year.

Colfax will host Asotin after placing 20th in the 62-team Sheridan Classic at Spokane Friday and Saturday.

They booked a 2-1 record in pool play at Ferris with wins over West Valley and Pasco’s jayvees and a loss to Jackson of Seattle. That sent them to Shadle park to compete in the gold bracket.

They started with match wins over GSL foes Lewis and Clark and Ferris, but then sustained losses to Northwest Christian and Troy, Idaho, in the final one game match.

Colfax made the Spokane trip after extending their string of league wins with a big edge over Liberty.

Line score was 25-11 25-10 and 25-15. Abbie Miller in the first game served 11 straight points with five aces, and she and Kylie Kackman each hit seven aces in the second game.

Greta Geier served straight 10 points at the start of the home match.
