Wanda Elaine Bull

Wanda Elaine Bull, 93, died Oct. 12, 2017, in Moscow. At Wanda’s request, there will be no funeral service.

Born April 17, 1924, at Potlatch, to John and Myrtie Sinnett Bull, she grew up in Potlatch and graduated from Potlatch High School in 1942. Wanda worked at the St. Ignatius Hospital in the laundry room and then at Wallace Grain & Pea Co. in Palouse before returning to the family home to help her parents. She was the family caregiver at Potlatch. She moved with her mother and brother Roscoe to Moscow in 1959 where she resided for the rest of her life.

Wanda enjoyed reading, watching TV, doing crossword puzzles, quilting, embroidering and going to University of Idaho basketball and football games.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry G. Holbrook

Family and friends of Larry Gordon Holbrook, 80, will celebrate his life with a potluck at the Palouse Community Center, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He will be buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse at a later date.

Mr. Holbrook died from an apparent heart attack Oct. 7, 2017, while gathering firewood with his son, Scott, near Orofino, Idaho.

Born Dec. 1, 1936, on the family ranch on Union Flat near Pullman, to Gordon O’dell and Edna Mae Larson Holbrook, he grew up in Bremerton, Moses Lake, Colfax, Moscow and Othello. He later worked and apprenticed with his father as a carpenter. He graduated from Moses Lake High School with the class of 1955.

After high school, he worked for Boeing in Seattle. He met and married Judith Lee Nock in 1959. Larry purchased a house and moved his family to Palouse in 1960. They were later divorced.

In 1981, Larry married Shirley Krasselt in Moscow, Idaho.

They made their home on Moscow Mountain, and he worked for Edwards Mill in St. Maries, Bennett Lumber and as a private hire carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.

Surviving are his children and step-children, Terri Holbrook of Alaska, Don (Debbie) Holbrook of Palouse, Scott (Sheri) Holbrook of Palouse, Cynthia (John) Arland of Farmington, Steven (Lenae) Holbrook of Palouse, Teresa Reilly (Chris Colebank) of California, Daniel Luman of Moscow, Melissa (Jon) Painter of Lewiston, Krysta Ficca of Spokane Valley and Joe (Norma) Holbrook of California; siblings, Kirby (Elva) Holbrook of Spirit Lake, Rosanne (Bill) Manley of Arizona and Robert “Butch” (Julie) Holbrook of Corbett, Ore .; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Richard D. Nelson

Richard D. Nelson, 88, lifetime Garfield resident, died at the Avalon Care Center Oct, 10, 2017. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the Garfield Christian Church with the Rev. King Rockhill officiating.

Born Oct. 23, 1928, in Clarkston, he grew up in the Garfield area and attended Garfield schools. He graduated from Garfield High School, and married JoAnne Cochran, his high school sweetheart, Feb. 21, 1947. They soon purchased the home where the couple lived for 66 years.

He worked including 16 years at the Garfield Union Hardware Store. He finished out his working career with 12 years at WSU as the student union building maintenance supervisor. He retired at 62, and he and Joanne enjoyed traveling, fishing and gardening.

His wife preceded him in death.

Surviving are son, Dwain Nelson and his wife, Jane, of Tucson, Ariz .; daughter, Susan Brooks and her husband, Rob, of Helena, Mont., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by sons, Gene Nelson and Dick Nelson.

Joyce Walters

A graveside service for Joyce Walters, 87, will be Saturday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Mrs. Walters died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at her home in Seattle.

Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Tekoa to Leonard and Gladys (Nunnally) Woods, she attended schools in Tekoa and graduated from Tekoa High School in 1947.

She married Robert J. Walters in Tekoa June 12, 1949, and the couple made their home in Tekoa. They later lived in Spokane, Davenport and Pullman. They returned to Tekoa in 1986. Her husband died in February of 2011, and Joyce moved to Seattle to live near her family in 2013.

Surviving are one daughter, Stacey Ann Walters of Seattle; one son, Robert John (Carol) Walters of Kirkland; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Memorial donations can go to Virginia Mason Foundation in Seattle in honor of Dr. Paul Smith, or to Tekoa Community Ambulance Association or the American Cancer Society.
