Moore rite set for today

The funeral for Jimmy John Moore of LaCrosse will be today, Thursday, Oct. 19. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. in Hay, with memorial services at Selbu Lutheran Church at 1 p.m.

Helen Appel hosted her District 7 Make It With Wool contest Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Public Service Building in Colfax. Contestants were Jill Swannack, Carmen Swannack, Elly Kunkel and Bree Deatherage. Prizes included trips to the state contest, wool yardage and sewing tools.

Bruce and Elaine Appel, Charlie and Spenser spent a Sunday recently visiting his parents, Helen and Dick Appel. Sighting-in the elk gun was on the agenda.

Homestead Ministries brought product and volunteers to Logos School in Moscow, Idaho, last Thursday. Homestead donated 10,000 pounds of peas, lentils and beans for the event, thus providing more than 60,000 meals for area food banks and churches. Volunteers were Tom and Doreen Riedner, Greg and Gwen Nolan, Steve and Becky Camp, Mike and Audrey Largent, Bob and Norma Schultz, Steve Gerlitz, Jon Webber, Debbie Largent, Linda and Larry Frei, Dan and Lorna Druffel, along with more than 450 students from the Logos School. Terry Huber with Huber Freight provided a truck for transporting supplies.

Koreen Benthien has notified the Country Bible Church that former pastor Ben Benthien, Anacortes, has died, Benthien also served as Whitman County Chaplain with the sheriff’s department while they lived in Dusty. No further details were available at the time of printing.

Steve and Becky Camp were hosts to four hunters, plus some of their sons, from the west side of the state this past weekend. It was a successful venture, as everyone tagged out. Steve’s son, Tony, and his family of Olympia, also were guests for the weekend. They came to help Steve celebrate his birthday.

Carrie Pitts, Yakima, was a weekend visitor of her parents, Kim and Cindy Pitts. She helped them work on the new garage they are constructing.

Forrest Riley, 68, former Whitman County resident and brother to Zonna Lindgren, Rosalia, and Walter (Sonny) Riley, Dusty, passed away a week ago last Monday. He is also survived by three sons, Shawn, Justin and Cody. Services were held in Walla Walla, where he was a resident, with burial in Rosalia.

Drop-in guests at the home of Karen Broeckel last week, on two separate days, were John Allyn Murray of Bellingham and Jim Carlson of Deer Park. Both gentlemen were in the area for the beginning of hunting season.
