Fair opens new Facebook page

A new Palouse Empire Fair Facebook page has been created for the public to keep abreast of fair announcements and developments. The new page went up Oct. 23.

“Hopefully, Facebook will alleviate me from a lot of phone calls in the office,” said Janel Goebel who has taken over much of the fair administration operations following the fair department merger with Parks and Recreation, Developmental Services and Emergency Management.

Goebel has been left with a steep learning curve as she works to tabulate and issue premium point checks to people who exhibited in the fair. She anticipates those checks to be mailed out in November.

“I’m looking for photos,” Goebel noted, wanting to build the page with pictures from people who attended or exhibited at the fair.

Goebel plans to use the Facebook page for future fair-related updates.

She also issued a notice Oct. 26 concerning premium checks from 2016 or earlier. Those checks have to be cashed by Nov. 6. A new account has been set up for the 2017 premium checks, and the account attached to older checks will be closed Nov. 6.

Goebel noted checks from the livestock sale come from an account separate from the one for premium payments.
