Fahrenheit 451
set for WSU stage
Ray Bradbury’s classic science fiction tale “Fahrenheit 451” will be presented by Literature to Life, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, in WSU’s Jones Theatre.
Adapted verbatim from the classic 1953 novel and directed by Wynn Handman, “Fahrenheit 451” depicts a future society where books have been outlawed and ubiquitous screens preoccupy the population with mindless entertainment.
Fireman Guy Montag’s job is to burn books wherever they are found. When he meets his new neighbor, a teenage girl with free-thinking ideals, he begins to question his purpose and perceived happiness.
Montag will be portrayed by Rich Orlow, an actor perhaps most recognizable for his voice work on hundreds of commercials, documentaries, video games, audiobooks and more.
Reserved seating costs $16 adults, $12 for those 60 and over, and $8 non-WSU students and youth. WSU student admission is free.
“Fahrenheit 451” is presented by WSU Performing Arts with support from the Residence Inn and the Courtyard by Marriott – Pullman.
Plans for 'Messiah'
Paradise Creek Musical Arts Society, a new collaboration among the churches of Moscow, Pullman and surrounding areas to form a non-denominational choir and orchestra, will have an organizational meeting Nov. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church on 3rd street in Moscow, across from Moscow High School.
A short nomination and election of officers and board will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, following any new registrations.
They are planning a performance of "The Messiah."
They are also looking for volunteers to help in organizational matters, equipment handlers, ushers, guards and other tasks.
Dahmen Soup
Extravaganza
In August, Artisans at the Dahmen Barn held a Mudslinging Extravaganza fundraiser for the new kiln shed. There were several demonstrations, including one in which seven potters competed in a wheel throwing competition to see who could make the most soup bowls in an allotted amount of time.
The barn now has several beautiful bowls, so they are finishing up the fundraiser with a soup extravaganza on Friday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost: $25, veterans $20.
All funds raised will go toward maintenance fees for the kilns and for supplies for the children’s pottery program.
The entry fee includes a choice of soup served in a 2017 Mudslinging commemorative bowl that the customer will get to keep.
Homemade bread and desserts will also be served. Weather permitting, there will also be a s'mores bar outside.
A blind throwing competition will also be held where guests can watch potters compete to throw a large bowl blindfolded with a guide telling them what to do.

Harbertson is a faculty member in the School of Food Science and Viticulture and Enology Program. He received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and doctorate in agricultural chemistry from the University of California at Davis.
