Author Vertrees set at Dahmen

Daniel R. Vertrees from Bovill, Idaho, will sign copies of "John: The Making of a Long Hunter" at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn Saturday, Dec. 2, from noon to 2 p.m. The historical fiction novel is part of “The Man of Kentucky” series that explores the story of a man living in and through the American War of Independence.

Former Astronaut to sign at Dahmen

Dr. John B. Herrington, explorer, adventurer and the world’s first indigenous astronaut is looking forward to inspiring kids and families Dec. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Artisans at the Dahmen barn at 419 N Park Way in Uniontown.

Herrington is a member of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma, and flew to the International Space Station in 2002 aboard the shuttle Endeavor. The historic mission included three space walks, the delivery of the Expedition-Six crew, the delivery, installation and activation of the P1 Truss and the transfer of cargo from shuttle to the station. He also rode a bicycle from Cape Flattery, Wash., to Cape Canaveral, Fla., in 2008 to call attention to the importance of education in STEM-related fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.)

Dr Herrington works with a variety of organizations including the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES.) His visit to Artisans at the Dahmen Barn will include a reading and book signing of his children’s book, “Mission to Space.”

chili cook off

Rosalia Chamber of Commerce will host a crock pot chili cook-off with all the fixings at the Rose Garage on Whitman Street, Rosalia, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Rosalia Battle Days.

Suggested donation is $10 with kids under 10 free. There is no fee for entries. All cooks are asked to arrive by 4 p.m. to set up.

Chapter AF met Nov. 13 at the home of Lynne Bruya with Cheryl Lothspeich as co-hostess. Nineteen members responded to roll call by indicating their favorite dish of Thanksgiving dinner.

Chapter S, Pullman, sent a follow-up with details regarding their fundraiser to be held Dec. 10. It is a home tour of three homes in the Pullman area. Reservations must be in by Nov. 27 for "Dashing through the Snow."

Chapter AF will hold its Christmas party/social at the library Center Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Members are to bring a gift valued at up to $15 to exchange.

The Reciprocity Committee for 2018 met and made plans. A sign-up sheet was passed around for members to choose a category of their choice.

Teri Heilsberg gave a report of the International Convention held Sept. 28 - 30 in Charlotte, N.C. The 2019 Convention will be held in Portland, Ore.
