Dahmen Holiday Open House offers exhibits, free events for children

Visitors will enjoy two new exhibits in the Dahmen Barn Loafing Shed Dec. 2 and 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work by resident artists is on display and in the Hay Loft Gallery. Curator’s Choice works by resident artists and past exhibitors will be on display. The exhibit includes furniture, wood bowls, pottery, scratchboard, watercolor, fine art quilts and more.

Sample locally-made specialty foods. Sign up for a door prize that will be given each day.

Daniel R. Vertrees from Bovill, Idaho, will sign copies of "John: The Making of a Long Hunter" Saturday, Dec. 2, from noon until 2 p.m. The historic fiction novel is part of The Man of Kentucky series that explores the story of John, a man living in and through the American War of Independence.

Former astronaut John B. Herrington will read and sign copies of his Book, "Mission to Space," Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. Dr. Herrington, the world’s first indigenous astronaut, is looking forward to inspiring kids and families. Kids in attendance will be entered into a drawing for a free signed copy of “Mission to Space.”

Sunday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids can create a ceramic ornament for free in the clay studio. Ornaments will be fired and glazed and kids can pick them up on or after Saturday, Dec. 16. Every child making an ornament will be entered into a drawing for a free 6-week clay class.

Handbell group to play at WSU

Sonos Handbell Ensemble will perform a concert of seasonal music at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in Washington State University’s Jones Theatre.

Sonos has amazed audiences around the world with their breathtaking musical performances using 68 chromatically tuned bells. Each bell plays a single note, allowing the ensemble to cover more than five octaves by ringing, slamming, plucking, malleting, shaking, damping and bouncing bells individually.

Reserved seating costs: $18 adults, $15 seniors (ages 60 and older) and $9 non-WSU students and youth. WSU student admission is free with valid ID.

Sonos Handbell Ensemble is presented by WSU Performing Arts with generous support from the Residence Inn by Marriott Pullman and the Courtyard by Marriott Pullman.

Parking will be available without permits or fees in the Daggy Hall parking garage and in the Green 3 lot directly across the street from Daggy Hall.

Senior meal

at Garfield

The December Garfield/Farmington Senior Meal will be Dec. 14 instead of the traditional third Thursday. This pushes the event further from the Christmas holiday.

The meal will be at the Garfield Grange/ American Legion Hall at noon and will be roast turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green salad with dressing, roll with butter, coffee and punch. Dessert will be ice cream and a cookie.

Athenaeum

Athenaeum Club will hold its annual Christmas luncheon Dec. 1 at 11:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church. The Yearbook Committee will host and provide a program for the event.
