Bulldogs to host Reardan in home basketball opener

Colfax boys Friday will host Reardan on the home boards as the NE hoop season gets underway The Bulldogs will host after sustaining two defeats in non-league action last week.

The Bulldogs were bumped 57-55 by Pomeroy Friday night in the Pirates gym after Pomeroy put together a strong second half.

Saturday on the home court, Lakeside bested Colfax 68-53.

Colfax, which logged a 17-7 record last year started the season without grads Jason Robinson, the team’s top scorer and Jared Kneale who often dominated the inside game for the Bulldog

Reardan will arrive Friday with four seniors departed from last year’s team.

Friday at Pomeroy, Colfax broke out a 13-7 lead after the first quarter and still had the Pirates down 26-22 at the break.

The Pirates charged after the break and the game was a scramble from that point.

Pirate Coach Brian Koller described the second half as a dog fight.

The Bulldogs missed a last-chance shot to tie it up and go into overtime, and the Pirates booked the 57-55 win for their season opener.

Jaydon Soncarty and Carson Cloaninger led Colfax with 16 points each. Jacob Tewalt canned 17 for the Pirates.

Saturday, Lakeside rocked Colfax for a 25-16 lead in the first quarter and kept the gap for most of the game for a 68-53 win.

Cloaninger, now a junior, hit 17 for the Bulldogs. He and Soncarty each laced three three-pointers against the guests.

After Colfax hosts Reardsan Friday they will make a short trip north to play Tekoa/Rosalia at Rosalia.
