Pomeroy's Greene wraps up career

Pomeroy's Jim Greene has resigned as the Pirates' volleyball coach. Greene has coached volleyball at Pomeroy since 1993 and led the Pirates to three state titles, according to a report in last week's edition of The East Washingtonian at Pomeroy. .

Last month the Pirates finished second in the 1B finals for the third straight year after facing Oakesdale in the championship match at the SunDome.

The Pirates took their last state title in 2014. They were also state champions in 1997 and 2005.

Greene is a member of the 1973 graduating class at Pomeroy. He was a member of the 1972 Pomeroy basketball team which went all the way to the state title game. Pomeroy in those years competed with Colfax and other teams in the SE A division.

In last Thursday's article, Greene cited Colton and Colfax among other area schools which employ a philosophy of building sports programs from the grade school level.
