Motley-Motley lands Uniontown sidewalk bid

The town of Uniontown opened three bids Dec. 5 on its sidewalk-extension project. Motley-Motley Inc. of Pullman was the successful low bidder with a bid of $297,953.

Other bidders were Knox Concrete of Lewiston for $339,950 and Crea Construction, also of Lewiston, for $339,262.

Cost estimate by estimate engineer Munir Daud, done two years ago, was $287,882, for the project which was targeted for last summer.

The project was pushed to next year after a longer-than-expected time until it was approved.

The work to extend sidewalks to each end of Uniontown’s limits was approved Sept. 13 by the Washington State Department of Transportation.

With its approval, the state designated a change to the pedestrian lighting. They narrowed the focus of the LED fixtures.

The delay was due to the wait for the project to be put into the state transportation improvement database.

The work will extend the sidewalk to the Dahmen Barn at the north end and the Rolling Hills subdivision at the south end. On Montgomery Street/Highway 195 the sidewalk will run north from Owen Street to the Dahmen Barn and south from Frank Street to the southern city limits.

The project is to be funded by a $306,000 grant from Washington’s Transportation Improvement Board and $60,000 from Palouse Regional Transportation Organization.

With the bids higher than expected, the T.I.B. approved an added $10,000 for the project.

The concrete sidewalks will be installed within the existing right-of-way of Highway 195.

The total length of new sidewalk will be .5401 mile.

The state highway department estimates the work to take three weeks while Daud estimates between four and eight weeks. Work will likely begin next June.
