Storm ends dry spell

Arrival of a snowstorm Friday and Saturday ended a run of low precipitation for December. Prior to the storm, which turned to rainfall Monday and Tuesday, December had booked just .05 of an inch of rainfall at the NRCS office in Colfax. Average precipitation for December is 2.72 inches.

The measurement at the NRCS Monday morning, which involved a melt of the snow, was .26 of an inch.

The lone prior rainfall day until Friday was Dec. 3, and the only other precipitation for the month was a trace logged Friday morning.

Prior to the dry run during the first half of December, the NRCS recorded 3.34 total precipitation for November, which was .56 above normal for the month. That put the crop year total 1.22 ahead of normal for October and November.
