Colton paces SE 1B league, hosts tournament

Leading to Christmas break, the Colton girls beat Garfield/Palouse Dec. 15 in a matchup of unbeaten teams to hold first place in Southeast 1B league standings. Colton (6-0, 3-0) is followed by Gar/Pal (5-1, 3-1), Pomeroy (5-1, 3-1) and Oakesdale (5-1, 2-1).

This week, Colton and Gar/Pal may meet again in the Wildcats’ Christmas tournament, which began Wednesday. The four-team bracket includes Wahkiakum and Entiat. Games will be played at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 20-21.

Also, this week around Whitman County, St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse will play non-league Valley Christian Thursday at St. John (6 p.m.). The Eagles will then travel to the Reardan Christmas Tourney Dec. 28-29. Oakesdale will play next on Friday at home vs. Dayton. Game time is 6 p.m.

Colton 64, Garfield/Palouse 34

After a close quarter-and-a-half, the Colton girls took over the game against Garfield/Palouse and cruised to victory.

The Wildcats led 33-23 at halftime after a 9-1 run to close the second quarter. Dakota Patchen led the Wildcats with 16 points and Emily Schultheis scored 12. Abby Kelly added 11 points and Josie Schultheis delivered seven points and seven rebounds. Georgia Meyer had eight points and eight rebounds.

For Gar/Pal (5-1, 2-1), Payson Griner scored 11 points, Katie Arrasmith had seven and Emmy Gregg and Kenzi Pedersen each scored six.

Garfield/Palouse 35, St. John/ Endicott/LaCrosse 32

Arrasmith led the Vikings with 12 points and 13 rebounds in a narrow win at home Dec. 16.

After trailing by nine points in the first quarter, Gar/Pal came back to cut the lead to 18-16 at halftime.

Griner led all scorers with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Amber Harder and Kierstyn Ray each scored 10 for the Eagles.
