Quarry rock work starts at Bauer site

Preparation work is underway at the Bauer Quarry site by contractors to furnish 30,000 tons of surfacing rock for the county.

4R Equipment of Bend, Ore., aims to drill this week at the site between Colton and Uniontown, Public Works Director Mark Storey reported,

The $164,000 project is to furnish and stockpile 30,000 tons of crushed top course surfacing rock.

Work on another contract at the Gnaedinger quarry is expected to be a month or two away from setting up a crusher.

The contract for the stockpile site outside Garfield is for 40,000 tons of maintenance rock, sanding material and rock chips. The bid from Shawnee Rock of Pullman came in at $316,800, which was $90,000 more than the county Public Works department budgeted, yet was still approved after evaluation.
