Serving Whitman County since 1877
December 21 was the annual build-off at Eclairs Coffee in Tekoa. Eighteen students, led by high school teachers Ryan Poppy and Ryan Burchett, formed four teams to compete to build the best gingerbread house. Students got one hour to build, with mandatory tasks like singing a Christmas carol, creating and naming a character for their house and answering trivia questions.
The winners, pictured, were Ali Blaszak, Delani Lehn, Savannah Potter and Eliona McElderry. The winning house was named Mr. Poppy's magic school house. The winners donated their winning prize to Shriner's Hospital in Spokane.
