Garfield/Palouse unwrapped a 7-1 record Dec. 21, going into Christmas break with a win in the four-team Colton tournament. The Vikings beat Wahkiakum 60-45 to take the plaque.
Caden Sanders led with 15 points while Blake and Austin Jones each scored 14. Ely Hawkins delivered 11 points and 10 rebounds while Tanner Anderson put up 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Vikings will return to the court Jan. 5 at home against unbeaten Pomeroy, leaders of the Southeast 1B league.
Colton 54, Entiat 44
For their first win of the season, Colton outmanned Entiat in the third-place game of the four-team tournament at Colton. In the opening round the day before, Colton lost to Wahkiakum by three points and Entiat got run by Garfield/Palouse.
Leading Colton against Entiat, Kian Ankerson scored 19 points – including five three-pointers. Matt Wolf added 14 points with six rebounds and five assists.
Garfield/Palouse 65, Entiat 40
The Vikings’ best shooting night of the year came at the opening of the Colton tournament Dec. 20.
Up against the Tigers of Entiat, Gar/Pal shot 24 of 57, led by sophomore Blake Jones with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ely Hawkins scored 18 points and Tanner Anderson had 12.
Wahkiakum 46, Colton 43
Leading by as much as 10 points along the way, Colton had opportunities but could not finish off the Mules in the first round of the Colton tournament. Kian Ankerson led the Wildcats with 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting while Matt Wolf had 12 points and four assists.
