Maryellen Hensle Cosgrove, 94, died at her home in Denver, Colo., Dec. 21, 2017.
Born June 23, 1923, to R.A. and Mae Lynch Hensle at Tekoa, she moved with her family to Clear Creek. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1941. After completing Kinman Business School in Spokane, she relocated to Oakland, Calif. She was employed as a civilian Navy clerk at Treasure Island. She met her future husband, John Cosgrove, and they were married June 15, 1946, in Colfax.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, John, and siblings, James Hensle, Marjorie Elder, Vincent Hensle and Richard Hensle.
Survivors include Margaret Macy Cosgrove, Dubuque, Iowa; Nancy Cassady, Cincinnati, Ohio; Jack Cosgrove, Albuquerque, N.M .; Theresa Cosgrove, Denver, Colo .; Kathleen Cosgrove, Oakland, Calif .; Robert Cosgrove, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Harold Hensle, El Cajon, Calif.
Dorothy Mae Hall, 88, formerly of Moscow, died Dec. 28, 2017 in Rapid City, South Dakota as a result of a car accident. She was born to Ross Ora Renner and Lydia Mae Wilde Renner on April 19, 1929, in Hyde County, South Dakota. Mom lived in Moscow most of her life and considered Moscow her home. Seven years ago, Mom returned to Highmore, S.D., to be with her childhood
sweetheart, Dennis Ruzicka.
Mom was raised in Highmore, S.D., where she lived 1½ miles from the Ruzicka family, from birth until 4th grade, when she moved to Carlin Bay, Idaho. The family later moved to Moscow, Idaho, where she finished her schooling. She met her husband of 18 years, George Ernest (Ernie) Hall, while working at Bob’s Donut Shop on Third St. and he was working at Modern Way on Main St. Together they had four girls: Kris, Barb, Judi and Bonnie. Dorothy later worked at the Idahonian as a proofreader, and at the University of Idaho (UI) as a lab technician for 21 years. Mom and Dad lived in Palouse, Wash. from 1964-1967 and in Rosalia, Wash. in the early 1950's, shortly after their marriage.
Mom raised her four daughters as a single mom and did an excellent job! After retiring from the UI, her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her grandkids. She was loved by all her grandchildren. Some of the family’s most favorite memories include her wonderful breakfasts. Mom enjoyed spending time shopping at thrift stores looking for treasures. She will be missed by all of us!
Dorothy is survived by her four daughters, Kris (Mark) Boreen, Pullman, Wash .; grandchildren, Richard (Melissa) Crossler, Choctaw, Okla., Robert (Crystal) Crossler, Pullman, Wash., and Pam (Cody) Melton, Helena, Mont .; daughter, Barb (Rick) Whitcomb, Kamiah, Idaho; grandchildren, Bud (Courtney) Whitcomb, LaGrande, Ore., and Jake Whitcomb, Greeley, Colo .; daughter, Judi (Tim) Davis, Moscow, Idaho; grandchildren, Tony Magnuson, Austin, Texas, Cathi (Ryan) Zeller of Baton Rouge, La., Melissa (Wes) Castro, Little Rock, Ark., Joel (Cat) Davis of Colfax, Wash., and Jessi (Bodey) Davis of Albion, Wash .; and daughter, Bonnie (Perry) Berger, Garfield, Wash .; grandchildren, Bill (Bridget) Warner-Hall, Sarah (Brandon) Blevins of Boise, Idaho, Steve Berger, Fort Pierce, Fla., and Tina (James) Evans, Fukuay Varina, N.C .; 20½ great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by Dennis Ruzicka of Highmore, S.D., (her childhood sweetheart), her sister, Shirley Drew of Moscow, Idaho, and many beloved nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Renner.

Carol Jeanette Graedel Hartung; the daughter of Paulus and Emma Swanson Graedel, was born in Odessa, Washington on October 19, 1926, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 30, 2017 in Moses Lake, Washington.
Carol's Mother died when Carol was two years old so her paternal Aunt and Uncle, Ed and Elizabeth Miller, raised her at their home south of Spangle, Washington. She attended the North Pine one room school which preceded her graduation from Rosalia High School in 1943. Her favorite class was accounting and she was the baton-twirling majorette for the band!
After graduation at the age of sixteen, she worked for Rosalia Producers, where she met a local wheat grower named Stanley Hartung. Stanley offered to teach her how to skate on ice and she skated all the way to the altar with him. They were married at the Rosalia Methodist Church in February 1945.
She concentrated on raising five children, and running a successful household and farm. During grain harvest, she drove trucks of grain to the elevator. After the children were all in school, she returned to an accounting position and worked for several years for C.A. Damron. She was affiliated with the Rosalia Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge. In retirement, she helped raise her grandson, Garrett Hartung.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, and celebrated her ninetieth birthday in Moses Lake with over forty family members.
Surviving family members include; Cheryl (Charli) Hartung Barnum, Edmonds, Washington, Miriam Hartung Hart, Tucson, Arizona, Darryl Hartung, Selah, Washington, Charlotte Hartung Jones, Warden, Washington, and Gregory Hartung who resides on the family farm in Rosalia, Washington. Carol was the proud grandmother of seven boys and eleven great-grandchildren from Washington, Oregon and California.

Vera May Hatley, longtime Colfax resident, passed away January 6, 2018, at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. She was 81. Vera May was born June 24, 1936 at Johnson, Washington to Hazen and Edna Maxwell Hatley.
She grew up on a farm near the Johnson crossroads with her older brother, Floyd, who was eight years her senior. Vera May was mentally handicapped and spent much of her life living with her family. Following the death of her father in 1969, she moved to Colfax and lived on the North Flat with her mother for about seven years. She lived for many years at the manor, in housing owned by Roy McDonald, until moving to Paul’s Place. She also lived in the Hatley Apartments behind Arby’s on Mill Street for many years and was often seen walking up and down Main Street with longtime friend Micke Hopkins.
Vera May loved attending the First Baptist Church in Colfax. She loved to walk, enjoyed her coloring books and did needlepoint and stitchery crafts.
She is survived by her brother, Floyd and his wife JoAnn of Colfax; and three nephews, Tobby, Mickey and Tim Hatley. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services for J. Neil Johnson, 87, Pullman, were Jan. 3, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Palouse Federated Church with Pastor Corey Laughary officiating. Burial followed at the Greenwood Cemetery, Palouse.
Mr. Johnson died Dec. 27, 2017, at his home in Pullman.
Born Sept. 10, 1930, at Potlatch, to John R. and Mary Inez Thompson Johnson, he attended Palouse schools and graduated from Palouse High School in 1948. He attended Eastern Washington University for two years and joined the U.S. Air Force Jan. 2, 1951, and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 18, 1954.
Mr. Johnson married Lila Wall July 8, 1956, at Palouse, and they made their home at Palouse until moving to Pullman in 1959. He was employed at the Pullman Grange in July of 1956 and later became manager. He retired in 1994 after 38 years of service. He also operated the Johnson family farm near Kamiak Butte.
Surviving are his wife, Lila Johnson, Pullman; two sons, Bart Johnson and Ben Johnson, both of Pullman; daughter, Karna (Wayne) Druffel, Pullman; brother, Cecil Johnson, Kennewick, Wash .; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Robert (Bob) Jones, 85, will be on Jan. 13, 2018, 1 p.m. at the Garfield Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Phil Weagraff officiating. Mr. Jones died Dec. 29, 2017, at his Garfield home.
Born May 1, 1932, at Seattle to John and Marguerite Colvin Jones, he graduated from the South Kitsap High School in 1953. He married Cora Jean Hawkins, and they later divorced.
He married Tammie Erickson Oct. 20, 1994, at Garfield and the couple made their home at Garfield. Mr. Jones owned and operated R.C.J. Trucking in Garfield. He started the business in the 1970s and operated it until he retired in 2012. He was a member of AA and celebrated 26 years of sobriety.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years Tammie Erickson at the Garfield home; two sons, Alvin Hawkins, Portland, Ore., and Timothy Jones, Tigard, Ore .; two daughters, Cara (Dede) McMurphy, Holroye, Ore., and Malynda Mercado, Portland; one brother, Edwin (Margaret) Jones, Grapeview; one sister, Myfanwy Moore, Seattle; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Joseph Paul Kimberling, 20, Colfax died at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane Dec. 26, 2017. Born May 1, 1997, in Colfax to Kevin and Teresa Kimberling, he was raised in Colfax where he attended Colfax High School. He loved playing computer games, especially Fantasy Football league. He liked to go camping and really had a knack for making things out of wood with knives. He knew a lot about computers and anything that involved technology. He loved animals, especially his cats, and enjoyed going for rides on the back roads. His mother, Teresa, died in September from stage four cancer.

Hilda Ruth King, 97 years old, passed away in Houston, Texas on January 3, 2018. She was born July 11, 1920, in Pomeroy, Washington, the daughter of Fred & Margaret Hungate.
She graduated from St. Ignatius Nursing School in 1940. She pursued her nursing career until her retirement in the 1970s when she took up residence, for ten years, in St. Thomas. She moved back to the states in 1987. She has always loved the beauty of nature whether it be flowers, animals, mountains or just the shapes of the clouds. In her later years, she became an accomplished artist, painting mostly flowers and landscapes.
She was predeceased by her father, Fred W. Hungate; mother, Margaret Branson and sister, Margaret Hungate. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Melissa White of Tomball, Texas; grandchildren, Kim and Russ Keith, Lewisville, Texas, Chris and Tracie White, The Woodlands, Texas Courtney White, Vail, Colorado, and greatgrandchildren, Cooper White, Reagan White, Kristi Krick and Russell Keith.

A memorial service for Ronald M. McHargue, age 73, will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), at the Tekoa Community Church in Tekoa. Pastor Kathy Lee Kramer will officiate at the service. A private family urn burial will be held at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. McHargue, a lifelong Tekoa resident passed away at his home surrounded by his family.
Ron was born November 14, 1944, at Spokane, Wash. to Charles and Frances (Pat) McHargue, the first of twin boys. He was raised on the family farm near Tekoa, attended schools in Tekoa where Ron played basketball for four years, baseball for two years, and one year of football. Following high school graduation in 1962, he attended Washington State University in Pullman and earned a bachelor’s degree in math and science in 1966. Following his graduation, he returned to Tekoa to farm with his father and brother.
Ron married Judy Ann Hobbs in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on October 14, 1967.
The couple made their home in Tekoa until moving to the family farm in 1975.
Ron farmed his whole life and enjoyed bringing his son, Michael into the farming operation.
Ron had served as a rural fire commissioner for more the 30 years and was a two-time president of the Tekoa Jaycee Club.
He had been active in the Slippery Gulch Celebration in Tekoa and had served as the treasurer for the organization.
He was a member of the Washington Wheat Growers and the Washington Pea and Lentil Association.
Ron enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing on the local softball town team.
He especially enjoyed and was very proud of his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Judy at the family home; one son, Michael (Shannon) McHargue of Tekoa; three grandchildren, Michael Greybeck, and Alexander and Kasey McHargue; his mother, Pat McHargue of Tekoa; his siblings, twin brother Don (Becky) McHargue of Tekoa, Peggy (David) Harelson of Cheney, Wash., and Salli (Gary) Heaton of Tekoa; a brother-in-law, Jerry Hobbs of Tekoa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles.

Dennis Ray Stilson, age 68, entered into rest on December 27, 2017 in Spokane, Wash., where he had been a long-time resident.
Born to Dean and Jean Stilson, Dennis was raised in Oakesdale, later moving to Garfield and graduating from Garfield High School. He loved to tinker and graduated from Spokane Falls C.C. with a degree as an electronics technician. He and his then wife, Pam, owned and operated Super Tech in Pullman, Wash., and Dennis worked on the janitorial staff of WSU. Upon moving to Spokane, Dennis worked for many years at Montgomery Wards in appliance repair, and owned and operated Aquatic World and Pets. Dennis devoted most of his life to working. He was knowledgeable about how most things worked.
Dennis is survived by his three sons, Shawn, Eric, and Lucas; two brothers, Gary Stilson and Jim Stilson; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jan Sullivan was born on March 9, 1959 in Walla Walla, Wash. She passed away on Dec. 25, 2017 at her home in Washtucna, Wash.
Jan was a supervisor for the Washtucna EMS, and worked at East Adams Rural Hospital. She was also very active with the Adams County Pet
Rescue.
Jan is survived by her husband, Steve Sullivan; daughter, Alissa and husband, Jeff Walker; granddaughter, Sidney Mortenson; and son, Tyson Sullivan; sisters, Mary Piper, Diane Nilsson, Ann Mathison, Jackie Berg and Carol Brown .; brother, Michael Berg and mother, Doris Williams. She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Berg and her uncle, Gary Berg.

A memorial service for Julie Durango Quilang, 66, will be at the Catalyst Church in Colfax Jan. 13, 2018, at 3 p.m. She died Dec. 19, 2017, at the Courtyard in Colfax.
Born Oct. 31, 1951, to Vevencio and Flordeliza Alejandro Durango in Butuan City, Philippines, she lived in Butuan City most of her childhood and attended Agusan High School and met the love of her life, Othelo Quilang.
They married May 29, 1969, in Butuan City. They moved to Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, in 1985 and lived there until 2011 when they moved to Colfax.
She enjoyed growing plants and flowers, especially orchids.
She is survived by her husband, Othelo, in Colfax; seven children, Othelo (Francisca) Quilang, Mark Joseph Quilang, Myrla Quilang, Joy (Ernie) Tubilla, all of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines; Cove (John) Tolentino of Panpanga, Philippines; Joan (Jim) Wages of Springdale, Ariz., and Marcy (Blake) Sager of Colfax; eight grandchildren; three brothers; three sisters; two half-brothers, and one half-sister.
