Oakesdale beats Gar/Pal, three-way race solidifies

Oakesdale junior guard Evan Henning scores against Garfield/Palouse in a 64-46 win Jan. 19. The two teams are now in a dead heat, tied for second place with two Southeast 1B league losses – one of them to each other.

With four games remaining in the regular season, a three-way race for the crown is shaping up for the Southeast 1B league boys. Unbeaten Pomeroy holds control at 10-0 in league play followed by Oakesdale and Garfield/Palouse, both with two league losses after splitting their two games.

The Nighthawks won 64-46 last Friday, avenging a Dec. 8 loss at Palouse.

Trailing Oakesdale and Gar/Pal are Prescott and Touchet, both at 5-5 in league.

Oakesdale 64, Garfield/Palouse 46

Jacob Himes led the Nighthawks (13-3, 8-2) with 19 points while Kieron Anderson scored 16, Evan Henning had 10 and Matt Hockett 9 in a home win over the Vikings, who got in foul trouble early, sending sophomore forward Blake Jones to the bench for much of the first half. Oakesdale led by 10 at halftime, 35-25. Going into the fourth quarter it was 55-34.

Ely Hawkins led Gar/Pal (12-4, 8-2) with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Garfield/Palouse 52, Waitsburg 8

Playing at Garfield Jan. 21, the Vikings cruised past Waitsburg as Blake Jones scored 14 points and Caden Sanderson had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Gar/Pal shut out Waitsburg (0-11, 0-10) in the first half.

Pomeroy 42,

Colton 27

The Pirates remained unbeaten after a Jan. 19 win at Colton, dropping the Wildcats’ record to 3-11, 2-6 in league. Jacob Tewalt led the Pomeroy with 11 points while Ryan Wolf scored 10 and Oscar Morfin eight.

For Colton, Reece Chadwick scored 10, Parker Druffel got six and Matt Wolf five.

On Friday, Jan. 26 Garfield/Palouse will meet Pomeroy at Palouse, Touchet plays at Oakesdale and Colton travels to St. John to play St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse. On Saturday Oakesdale plays at Pomeroy, Gar/Pal goes to Prescott, St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse plays at Touchet and Colton plays at home against Waitsburg.
