Permit requests follow load limit

A spurt of requests for load limit exemption permits have followed the annual posting of new weight limits for spring break-up conditions. The red rectangle signs warning drivers were posted in early January due to warm temperatures.

“We’re already bombarded with requests,” said Mark Storey, Public Works director. Permit holders are allowed to exceed the load limit.

The limits are posted to reduce damage.

Limits usually run for 6-12 weeks, most often ending in March.

“One heavily loaded truck is the equivalent of 3,000 cars,” Storey told county commissioners Jan. 16.
