Serving Whitman County since 1877
Dustin and Kylonna Krob with Leighton, one of their three children. Siblings Alexandra and Kyler are grown up and out of the family home.
Dustin and Kylonna Krob are fairly new to Whitman County. The Krob family recently relocated from Colstrip, Mont., where Kylonna grew up. It was a difficult move leaving so much family and a proud heritage of coal and steam plant workers behind.
Kylonna is fond of the memories that her family had in watching Colstrip thrive throughout the years.
It is now a source of heartache and stirs a lot of emotion in Kylonna, particularly, to watch a community that she has loved for so long struggle for its survival.
She mentioned that Colstrip was nationally recognized with environmental awards for land reclamation and park development at one point.
It was also recognized by Sports Illustrated as being the top sports town in Montana.
After a lot of consideration, and with a heavy heart, the Krobs decided it was time to relocate their family and Dustin accepted a job offer with Lower Granite Dam as a power plant operator.
While the Krobs are enjoying the Palouse, a piece of their heart will always remain in Montana.
Dustin was born in Austin, Minn., which is known as “SPAM Town U.S.A.” He comes from a long line of workers that were employed by the Hormel Food Corp. His hometown boasts of being home to the one-and-only Spam Museum. Dustin’s family moved to Montana later in life where he met his wife, Kylonna. The couple have been married for 10 years and are parents to three children.
Dustin and Kylonna both are very active and enjoy time outdoors. They are passionate about healthy lifestyles, including gardening, canning and many other things that support self-sustaining and nutritious lifestyles. They are hopeful that the popular national movement of backyard farming, including raising chickens that produce fresh eggs, will soon be embraced in all the communities on the Palouse.
The Krobs look forward to getting more familiar with all that this area has to offer.
They enjoy biking, hiking, camping, fishing and many more outdoor activities.
They also noted that while it is difficult being away from family, they are grateful for the friends they have made and the warm welcome they have received.
Kylonna has already jumped in and can be found volunteering and working with the local youth through her church.
Dustin is also known to be quick to lend a hand and volunteer help when needed.
It hasn’t taken the couple long to find ways to serve locally.
The Krobs are not strangers to small towns and some of the challenges that come from small town life, but they are also mindful of the blessings of a quiet, little community that watches out for each other.
They feel like they have found a place they can settle into and call home.
