Wrestlers begin road to state

Six wrestlers on the Colfax/St. John/GarPal team have qualified in top slots for the first round of eliminations leading up to the state Mat Classic.

Wresters from south side teams, 1B and 2B, in the district will converge at Ritzville Saturday for the sub-regional round of the eliminations.

The top four finishers at Ritzville will qualify to face the top four out of the north side of the league for next week’s regional round which will be at Reardan.

Four wrestlers in each weight class will qualify for the state show in Tacoma. The Mat Classic will start with 12 qualifiers in search of state medals.

Top seeds in for the locals in the sub-regional have been earned by Nolan Burrill at 113, Colby Slate at 126, Chris Jones at 152, Travis Knauff at 160, Dane Hall at 170 and Augie Allenbach at 220.

The wrestlers last week competed in Ritzville, Pullman and the league meet at Reardan.

The team rolled up a 18-5 mark at Ritzville, 12-6 in Pullman and 15-13 in the league meet at Reardan.
