Quilts of Valor presented to veterans Feb. 3 at Palouse included, from left to right, Blake Clemens, Garfield; Sundance Allen, Todd Kinsey and Irv Johnson, all of Moscow.
Four Army and Marine Corps veterans, whose service extended from the Cold War to Afghanistan, were honored at the Palouse Patchers’ Quilts of Valor National Sew Day event Saturday at the Palouse Community Center.
Each of the four veterans – Sundance Allen, Blake Clemens, Irv Johnson and Todd Kinsey – was presented with a quilt. Differing in design, each quilt shared a red, white and blue patriotic theme.
Twenty quilters spent the day at the Community Center cutting strips, sewing squares and attaching binding before adding the final touch: the label identifying the recipient and the people who created the quilt.
The quilts presented Saturday join more than 180,000 others provided by the Quilts of Valor Foundation (qovf.org) since they began their work in 2003.
Recipients are located through local referrals, family members' requests and more.
