Dayton, Waitsburg okay sports merger

Dayton and Waitsburg school boards Jan 29 approved merging all of their sports programs at a joint meeting in Waitsburg, according to a report in last week’s Dayton Chronicle. The proposal has been discussed at public sessions in both districts, and Monday’s joint session had been slated as another public forum, but the two boards decided to go ahead and approve the merger.

Dayton and Waitsburg have combined for football for the past two years and baseball for last year.

The D-W teams will compete in the 2B division in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference. Waitsburg has been competing in the 1B division with its individual teams.
