Elections: First count results hold after 2nd count

Whitman County Elections staff counted 1,780 ballots Friday, bringing the voter turnout to 35.43 percent. An additional 200 ballots remain to be to counted, included ones to be reviewed by the canvas board before certification Feb. 23.

Approval rating went up for the City of Pullman’s two bonds and all propositions for Colfax, Garfield, Colton and St. John school districts.

The lone measure to fail in the first count still lacked the votes to pass. Rosalia’s streets levy for $95,000 gained 14 yes votes, but was countered by 13 nos, keeping it at 55 percent approval. It needs 60 percent to pass.

The mayor and town council are expected to discuss the result at their Feb. 27 meeting.
